The Cavalier Bremworth journey began in 1959 when Doug Bremner founded the Bremworth Carpet Company from a small factory in Papatoetoe, South Auckland. But even a committed innovator like Bremner could never have predicted the levels of advancement and growth that were to unfold.
The official Woolmark seal of quality was launched and the following year, Bremworth became the world's first carpet company entitled to use the Woolmark symbol. That same year, Bremworth also became one of the first to advertise on television and its dominant use of the medium through the years helped establish the Bremworth brand as a household name.
UEB Industries, one of New Zealand's biggest corporations, bought Bremworth and established spinning and scouring plants throughout the country.
Cavalier Carpets of New Zealand was founded by Tony Timpson and Grant Biel.
A spinning plant was built at Wanganui.
Cavalier Carpets listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange as Cavalier Corporation.
Cavalier Carpets bought the highly valued Bremworth name and distribution rights as well as their spinning and tufting plants.
The combined companies relaunched under the Cavalier Bremworth brand.
Since then, Cavalier Bremworth has consistently broken new ground. We were the first carpet company in the world to gain an internationally recognised eco-label across our entire wool carpet range.
We were awarded Environmental Choice NZ accreditation in 2006, shortly followed by the equivalent certification in Australia from Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA). Today, our carpets carry an independent environmental grading from the Australian Carpet Classification Scheme - ACCS ECS.
We also have ISO 14001 accreditation, demonstrating a commitment to taking responsibility for our manufacturing footprint and performance improvements.
In 2013, we launched the Habitat Collection brand for our synthetic carpets and we also grouped our commercial products under the Cavalier Commercial brand.
Today, the Cavalier Bremworth name is synonymous with carpets that are as beautiful as they are innovative. We've been voted NZ's Most Trusted Brand in the carpet category of the annual Readers' Digest poll for 2014, 2015 and 2016.
